Expanded Ideas
-
My first idea I want to discuss is what I percieve as nights out here on campus. I drew a (poor) sketch in my sketchbook of the images I would like to use if I choose this idea. I wanted to start with an image directly looking up at the shower head, move to the getting ready stage of the night, a shot of the drinks/shotglasses/glasses many use before a party, an image to symbolize the party itself such as speakers, a bed, then finally entering the shower again. I choose to expand upon this because I believe that many people's lives revolve around these nights out, some taking it drastically too far. I wanted to capture the perpetuation of this event, as well as how monotonous it can even seem to be.
-
My second idea I would like to expand upon is the idea of hair, specifically women's hair. Our hair is often our identity, yet I see myself changing it regularly, even many times per day. I wanted to capture the ever changing aspect of our hair, and therefore our identity. Buddhist monks even shave their heads in order to remove their identies and begin anew in the temples. Something just as simple as a ponytail could tell people something vastly different than wavy or wet hair. I wanted to capture a photo of just a model's hair, and have it be a cycle of how I see myself going through my day, or how a person would normally go through theirs.
-
After a discussion with Leticia I realized I could try to combine my love for animals with this project. We spoke about having the images change from one animal to another, using a technique such as double exposure in the darkroom. I want to take it a step furher and show how all animals, as well as people, are connected. I want to do this by having shots of 3 different animals (or more) and a person, scaled to the same size. Then using either the double exposure technique or a sandwiching technique I want to show each of these animals morphing into each other, showing a connection and how we all can morph into another one easily.
Inside the Sketchbook

Plan of Action
-
Subject Matter - I want to try to use photos of animals and possibly one person. I want to take each shot directly in front of the face, so that the subjects are straight in front of the camera
-
Parameters- I am hoping to use a low aperature, and therefore a high shutter speed, in order to both have a shallow background and be able to capture the animals features without worrying about their movements being blurred in the image
-
Artists I will research - Sophie Calle, Duane Michals, and Lorna Simpson
-
Techniques to be learned or improved - I want to experiment with sandwiching the negatives or double exposing the images onto the photo paper in order to get my desired affect. I also want to see how it would look to burn around the figure so that the rest of the image is dark while the figure is light.

Trials and initial images
-
Finish Format Plans - I am thinking that I will have these photos arranged in 2 rows on one frame, and have the photos read in the columns rather than rows. I will experiment with placement as I have more photos available for this project
